Sumo Sam, Marquee Mall

bacon wrapped asparagus

yummy food, so-so service

I had lunch with my mom, my sister and her friend last Sunday (Feb. 29) at the new branch of Sumo Sam at Marquee Mall, Pampanga . It was our first time to dine at Sumo Sam and I'd say it was a good experience. Having read bad reviews about it before, I actually did not intend to try this restaurant. But I was craving for California Maki and this is the first restaurant we saw which serves C.Maki and we were already starving by the time we got to the mall.

The place is cozy. It was not crowded when we got there (at about 11:30 am) but started filling up at 12 noon. The prices are quite high but the quality of food justifies the price. However, the service is similar to what I've read about the other branches. The waiters are kind and okay in taking orders but they take your plates without making sure you're done with your food.

I wasn't able to get photos of all orders, but we had the following: Sumo Prawn Salad, Chicken Teriyaki, BaconWrapped Aspagaus (as shown above), California Maki, Tuna Sashimi, and Japanese fried Rice. All of us loved the first three dishes. I particularly enjoyed the salad. The Chicken Teriyaki and Bacon-wrapped asparagus are sweet but not excessively. I recommend their California Maki, which tastes really nice. Although the cream is a bit too much for me, still this is something I will try again. Tuna Sashimi is okay. Unfortunately I did not try their Japanese Fried Rice but I think my mom enjoyed it.

All in all, it was a nice experience and for me, the restaurant is a must-try.
